Starting hourly wage $15. Annual pay increases, and excellent benefits with 19 or more hours per week.
- Ability to follow directions from school nurse concerning health, safety, and medical procedures.
- Ability to follow directions from occupational and physical therapists concerning positioning, feeding, bathrooming, etc.
- Ability to consistently use proper hygiene practices as prescribed by MMSD health policies.
- Desire to work with students with multiple handicaps including cognitive disabilities.
- Ability to monitor and deal with aggressive student behavior.
- Ability to help student develop positive social skills.
- Ability to follow through with behavior management programs for students.
- Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse students, staff and community, orally and in writing.
-Ability to walk, lift (up to 50 lbs.) climb, bend, reach, and kneel within the context of performing job duties.
- Perform when confronted with emergency, unusual or crisis situations.
- Job requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting, climbing, bending, reaching, and kneeling.
- Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward one?s own cultural competence, i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one?s skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.
Candidates must have 48 academic credits beyond high school. Transcripts displaying credits earn must be provided.
Applicants who wish to work with disabled children are required to obtain a Special Education Program Aide license issued by the Department of Public Instruction. The cost of this license is $100 and can be paid directly by you. DPI may require you to complete fingerprint cards if you have lived out of state in the past 20 years, which may incur an extra cost to you.
CPR and First Aid certification is desired.
Fluency in Spanish is highly desired

The MMSD does not post specific vacancies externally. When a vacancy has not been filled through the transfer of a current MMSD Special Education Assistant, we go directly to the external pool to review external applicants who are active in the pool.
